ABOUT OUR CHURCH

The chief purpose of Providence Reformed Baptist Church is to glorify God. This is to be accomplished through the promotion of His worship, evangelizing of the lost and edification of the saints. The Scriptures teach that we are to be salt and light and that we are to propagate the Gospel by all legitimate and scriptural means possible. This starts with each person's individual relationship with God, then with our families, fellow members of the body, and finally to the ends of the world, as the Lord may lead and enable. Moreover the church is to promote holiness of life among its members and to edify itself in love - to the end that God will be glorified through His church.

We regard the London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 as an excellent, though not inspired, expression of the teaching of the Word of God. Because we acknowedge the Word of God written to be the supreme authority in all matters of faith, morals, and order, we adopt this historic document as our doctrinal standard and church's confession of faith. We find it to be a assistance in controversy, a confirmation in faith, a means of edification in righteousness, and a summary statement of those convictions held by this church.

Our Distinctives
If we were to be asked "What kind of a church are you?” we would not hesitate to reply, "We are a Baptist church!" We hold to those truths which have sometimes been referred to as "Baptist Distinctives". We would also reply that we are a "Reformed Church" inasmuch as we hold to the great doctrines of the Reformation in which are expounded upon in the London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689. In this sense, we are pleased to be referred to as a "Reformed Baptist" church.

What, then, are some of the distinctives of Providence Reformed Baptist Church?

Defined by the Bible
We are committed to being defined by the Bible alone.

Biblical Theology
We seek to derive our theology strictly from the Bible, and we believe that such a theology is thoroughly God-centered and man humbling. Such a theology is in line with that recovered by the great Reformers of the 16th century, preached by the Puritans, and summarized by the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689.

Biblical Preaching
We are committed to preaching which is pervasively biblical, unashamedly doctrinal, intensely pastoral, and unmistakably Christ-centered.

Biblical Church Growth
We are committed to developing spiritually mature disciples who know the Word, live the Word, and spread the Word. Such disciples are only developed through strong biblical teaching and loving accountability.

Biblical Worship
We are committed to God-centered worship, which is marked by simplicity and passion, composed of expository and doctrinal preaching, public reading of the Scriptures, prayer, the sacraments, and singing.

Biblical Families
We are committed to developing godly families by intentionally training men to lead their families in the ways of the Lord and by avoiding a multiplicity of church programs that either by structure or time constraints, tend to keep families apart.

Biblical Leadership
We are led by a group of godly men (known biblically as elders and deacons) who are chosen by a spiritually mature congregation and are accountable to such.

Biblical Evangelism
We are committed to an evangelistic approach that proclaims the biblical gospel of repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which relies on God to regenerate and convert the sinner,- not shallow salesmanship or psychological manipulation.
